The Akrathi halflings have been forged in the crucible of the deserts of the Tsvarnen Empire. While they closely physically resemble their Lightfoot and Strongheart cousins to the north, the similarities end there. To outsiders, they show no mirth. To their neighbors, the Akrathi are a stoic and resolute force to be called on to police the dunes or to negotiate as a neutral party. The role of the Akrathi as diplomats and traders is legendary among the Tsarven Empire, particularly within the territories of Djyaristan and Lirremar.
Akrathi have slightly darker skin tones than their cousins and eyes of gray or blue. The Akrathi live in a clan structure, with the clans based around extended families and those from outside the bloodline that have proved themselves in ways significant to the clan: either in battle, in trade, or granting assistance in dire times. The Akrathi value honor above anything else and even those of darker inclinations will adhere to a promise granted in all matters.
Due to their stature and the nature of their environs, they breed their own mounts, the Casso: flightless birds that are well suited to the desert. One's skill riding and fighting from the saddle is a source of pride to the individual as well as the renown of their clan.
