Antioch Arcane Consortium

The Antioch Arcane Consortium (often referred to simply as The Consortium) is Antioch's mage guild. It is a gathering of mostly good-aligned mages and sorcerers united in their interest to defend Antioch and to empower the Heroes of Light. Traditionally, only the ruling class of Antioch were invited to join the guild and it was considered quite the elitist society. In recent years, The Consortium has become more liberal and as a result grown in power and renown, drawing the interest of good-aligned arcanists from all walks of life. Its location is known only to its members.

The Circle of Seven

The controlling organ of The Consortium is The Circle of Seven: They are the most accomplished, and powerful, of all the arcanists within the guild. Some have stayed out of the public eye, known only to their members, while others have a higher profile. Traditionally, there should be one High Archmage for every school, except for necromancy which is still banned in the Consortium. For the last decade or so, there have been only five members of the council of Seven, as no suitable candidates have been found.

First among equals (Primus Inter Pares) is High Archmage Welkanar, council to the King of Antioch. The Primus Inter Pares is elected from among the Council of Seven and serves until death, resignation, or a vote of no confidence is passed against him or her.

In 750 SG Arch Mage Ramius Darkholme (PC) was asked to join the Council of Seven.

Below the Circle of Seven are the Arch Mages (2 from each school), followed by senior arcanists, junior arcanists and apprentices (numbers vary). As with the High Arches, some members are public while others keep a low profile.

Joining The Consortium

Any member of The Consortium must be pure of heart and sound of mind. While junior and senior arcanists are allowed to master other areas as well, only those truly dedicated to the art ever reach the rank of Archmage and above. These individuals must be at the pinnacle of their chosen school, hold favor among their peers and have made several important contributions to The Light. They are preferably known associates of a good-aligned faith, but godless Archmages (and High Archmages) are not unheard of.

In OOC-terms, only SC sorcerers and mages (prestige class excluded) of some renown, a long career and a decent amount of play time can become Arches and High Arches. However, any good aligned arcanist (arcane wielders of various classes) can apply to be a junior mage and potentially work their way up. Players must remain active to retain their position.
